WSP Supports Derbyshire’s DoE Programme for 2009

A leading engineering and management consultant, WSP, has recently donated funding towards the cost of buying a ‘Fielding Bola Machine’ for Derbyshire Cricket Board’s Development of Excellence Programme.

Chris Porter, Derbyshire Cricket Board Performance and Programmes Manager, said ‘’WSP's contribution brings us closer to achieving our goal for 2009 to raise funds for a Fielding Machine for the Boys and Girls County Squads.   In 2008 a number of DCB Players took part in a training session at Loughborough University with Richard Halsall (ECB Fielding Coach).  During the session Richard used a ’Fielding Machine’ made by BOLA. The machine made a significant difference to the training sessions and the players really enjoyed the activities.’

Tom Knight and the Mini Academy players receive the donation from WSP's Paul Tomlinson

Paul Tomlinson from WSP said, ‘WSP feels that it is important to support the local organisations within the area.  When Chris Porter invited me to Repton School to meet the Mini Academy and Emerging Players, I was impressed with the work ethic and professionalism of all the players.

‘I hope that the WSP’s donation will make a significant contribution towards the buying of the Fielding Bola Machine.’

WSP Group plc is a global design, engineering and management consultancy, specialising in projects for the property, transport and environment sectors.  Our 10,000 employees in 35 countries work with clients to create built and natural environments for a sustainable future.

WSP has been commissioned by the Highways Agency to design and supervise the construction of a Technology and Improvement scheme on the A38 /A50 in the Counties of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The scheme comprises the erection of innovative digital driver information signs (MS3 signs) and an installation of a comprehensive CCTV camera system on the A38/A50 diversion routes between M1 Junction 28 and – M1 Junction 24A of the M1. When a diversion is in operation, information displayed on MS3 signs will warn drivers about congestion ahead.  This will encourage road users to use the provided diversion route (A38/A50) and discourage them from using the typically congested Derby City ring road when the M1 diversion is in force.

DCB Sponsorship

The DCB is the Governing Body for Cricket in Derbyshire and as such is responsible for all aspects of recreational cricket throughout the County.

It has a number of strategic partners in this effort.  These comprise of:

bulletThe England and Wales Cricket Board
bullet Derbyshire Sport
bulletThe local Schools Sports Partnerships
bulletThe local Councils and any other organisation whose interest lies in the
bullet Development of cricket as a 'sport for all'.

By working with several ‘cricketing’ and ‘non-cricketing’ partners, the DCB is able to promote Cricket in Schools, Clubs, Community settings and County and District Representative Squads.

The programmes currently employed by the DCB cover all areas of cricket including Women and Girls, Clubs, Disability Cricket, District Cricket and the Development of Excellence Programme for both boys and women and girls.

In addition to working with players the DCB make extensive provision for the development of coaches, officials, volunteers, players and facilities.

We should be very interested in working with your company to take these programmes to the next level and would welcome the opportunity to discuss the possibilities further.  We are very flexible in what we might be able to offer you in return for sponsorship of the Derbyshire Cricket Board.
