Match Reports

Over 50's v Lancashire

"On a pitch that offered assistance to the bowlers, Derbyshire batting first, we're unable to score runs early on. Wickets then fell quickly as Derbyshire tried to break free. Derbyshire were eventually all out for 106. Well short of a competitive total.

In reply Lancashire were able to score more freely as Derbyshire set attacking fields in a bid to take wickets. Lancashire cruised to a 9 wicket victory."

Over 50's v Nottinghamshire

Derbyshire V Nottinghamshire. Played at Alvaston & Boulton CC on 14th May 2014.

Having won the toss Derbyshire inserted Notts and made an early breakthrough in the 2nd over. However an impressive second wicket stand of 168 between M Cheshire (91) and M Douglas (74) put Nottinghamshire in a strong position. The Derbyshire bowling attack came back strong in the second half of the innings to restrict Notts to a competitive 236 for 8. Derbyshire bowlers Steve Ottewell 4 for 49 and Martin Brandrick 2 for 48 taking the bulk of the wickets.

In reply Derbyshire lost two early wickets. A third wicket stand of 98 between Andrew Ball (56) and Dave Tee (63) put Derbyshire back on track. Requiring 120 off the remaining 21 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Derbyshire continued to lose wickets at regular intervals which resulted in an increasing run rate. Malc Mason and Ian Clarke shared a 50 run partnership to take Derbyshire close, but eventually falling just 5 runs short.

Derbyshire retain ECB over 50s County Championship title

Derbyshire claimed a four wicket victory over Lancashire to retain the ECB over 50s County Championship title at Kibworth Cricket Club in Leicestershire yesterday.

This is the first time in the competitions 28-year history that a County has retained the title in consecutive seasons.

After electing to bat Lancashire finished on 184-7 from their 45 overs. Glen Bullock (61) and Dave Bartholomew (35) posted the runs, which were later bolstered by an unbroken eighth wicket partnership of 31 between Captain Alan Whiston and Mel Whittle. Derbyshire captain Dave Tee did his best to restrict his North West opponents claiming figures of 2-37 from his nine overs.

In reply, Malcolm Mason and Tee put on a 77-run partnership to edge Derbyshire towards their victory target. Tee eventually holed out on 72 leaving Richard Crowther and Mark Bellm to guide Derbyshire home with five balls to spare.
