Bank Holiday Monday 26th August - Marston's Smooth Trophy Final

The final of the Marston’s Smooth Trophy took place on Bank Holiday Monday at Langley Mill United CC between Langley Mill and Alrewas CC. Alrewas won the toss and elected to bat first.

Langley Mill managed to keep taking regular wickets not allowing Alrewas to make partnerships as batters struggled to stay in and keep Gareth Woolley (68) company and still score runs. When Woolley was out at 164-7; Alrewas managed to reach 179 all out within 40 overs, looking like an average score to defend when not batting all the overs. Ben Foley (18), Cole O’Connor (18), Stephen Cole (16), and Tom Chapman (12) all pitched in with some runs. Pick of the bowlers for Langley Mill were; Jack Scott (3-37), Simon Lacey (2-23), Mohamed Dilshad (2-29), and Jay Holmes (2-45).

An early breakthrough for James Rowland saw Langley Mill 2-1, before they started to rebuild with Thomas Brandrick (32) and Jay Holmes (16) getting them to 54-2 before the loss of another wicket. Matthew Heafield (23) chipped in well before he fell at 91-4. A good stand by Jamie Salmons (50*) and Jack Scott (23*) saw Langley Mill reach the target in the 43rd over. Pick of the bowlers for Alrewas were; William Smedley (3-30), James Rowland (1-23), and Cole O’Connor (1-38).

Well done to Langley Mill CC!!!

Women’s Softball Update

This week saw Hilton CC host a Women’s Softball Festival. This was Hiltons first experience of Women’s Softball, and they did a great job of hosting. There were only 2 teams there on the day due to the Bank Holiday meaning some other teams had to withdraw; one from Hilton and one from Matlock. There was great weather, a BBQ going, and the PA System playing music. It was a great day for all, including a kwik cricket festival for the children meaning that Mums and Daughters were playing on the same day!! A massive thankyou to Hilton for hosting and Matlock for coming along and enjoying the day!
