U14 Boys v Lincolnshire U14 Boys

With early June’s monsoon behind us, the chance for the DCB u14s to play some cricket in the sunshine was welcomed. Having won the toss, captain TKS chose to have first use of a wicket that looked good to bat on. Although losing an early wicket wasn’t an ideal start, Yusef and Jake set about creating a platform for a deep batting line up, with plenty of powerful players.

Though Derbyshire lost a couple more wickets, Jake passed 50, showing excellent composure. He would go onto to score an excellent 80. At the second drinks break, it was agreed 240+ was on the cards, but it was going to take some quick acceleration to put Lincolnshire on the backfoot. Step forward Alfie Bell, who scored a blistering 46, including 20 off one over containing two big sixes!! Some excellent running by the lower order, and a Matt Myers cameo saw Derbyshire reach 263-9, a fantastic effort.

With the ball in hand, Derbyshire bowled tightly without much reward early on, but the breakthrough finally came in the form of Aidan, who took an outstanding catch at cover. The standard of fielding and bowling was continually high and kept Lincolnshire tied down. After 34 overs, Lincolnshire were 114/6 and the victory seemed insight. However, a combination of excellent hitting by Dring and some naivety from Derbyshire in their bowling and bowling plans kept the game interesting. In the end, Derbyshire closed out the game, to start the U14s competition with a deserved win.

Overall, a strong performance from Derbyshire. Some excellent batting and a (largely) good bowling effort. Equally, some lessons to be learnt going into the run of games against Cheshire, Cumbria and Lancashire.

A big thank you to Elvaston for hosting the game.  Finally, congratulations to Alfie, Morgan and Louis on their first full game for Derbyshire. I am sure they’ll only serve to strengthen the side throughout the summer.
