U11 Girls and U12 Girls Development in Staffordshire

It was decided that we would tackle a 2 innings game, with a maximum of 30 overs per side over the 2 innings, for the U11s first game of the season. Captain Maria Andrews lost the toss and we were put into bat first. After a good display of bowling from the Staffordshire seamers, our top order tumbled quickly with some good spinners undoing our lower order. Derbyshire stumbled to 43 all out in their first innings, Sophia McCollum (9) top scoring.

Staffs batting out their allotted 30 overs within their first innings reaching 115 for 5, with some good bowling from Rachel Parr (1-9), Maria Andrews (1-13), Sophia McCollum (1-11), and Gemma Przybylko (0-7). However, extras (37) were the biggest downfall which helped Staffs to reach their score.

For our second innings, we required 56 runs to pass the score set by Staffs, however we fell short scoring 47-9. Taking our total up 90, falling 25 runs short. There was some good batting from Gemma Przybylko (10) and Maria Andrews (13) putting on 25 runs for the first wicket. Spirits were high despite the loss with the team enjoying each other’s company throughout the day, hoping to build on these experiences for the future games.

U12 Development

For this team, it was decided that we would play two 15 over games. Captain Heidi Marriot won the toss and decided to bowl first. Some determination from the Staffs batters saw them reach 90 for 2, with 21 of the runs scored coming from extras. Abi Jordan (1-5) and Amelie Clarkson (1-9) were the pick of the bowlers taking the only 2 wickets of the game, with some tidy bowling from Heidi Marriot (0-11) and Vice-Captain Emma Hand (0-7) in support.

It was then Derbyshire’s turn to bat, with Heidi Marriot (5*) and Elsey Underdown (4*) opening the batting putting in a good stand until Elsey retired hurt. Under the fire of some good Staffs bowling, we struggled to score runs, reaching 48 for 4 off the 15 overs. Emma Hand (5) and Hollie Mayfield (4) were the next top scorers, with extra top scoring on 29.

For the second game, Staffordshire again batted first and we managed to restrict them to 60 for 2. Hollie Mayfield (1-11), Abi Jordan (0-7), and Heidi Marriot (0-6) were the pick of the bowlers with Heidi Marriot getting a run out for the other wicket with an excellent throw to the keeper from mid-wicket. Extras were our downfall in this game, top scoring with 32.

Ava Ford (0) and Hollie Mayfield (3) opened the batting for us, however we struggled to score runs yet again. Emily Ford (6) top scored with a useful innings from Amelie Clarkson (5) to back her up. We finished on 51 all out off 12.2 overs falling short by just 10 runs. For most of these girls it was their first time playing county level cricket, so it was pleasing to see them giving it their all throughout the day regardless of the scores. We are looking forward to watching the team grow throughout the remainder of our games and seeing them progress.
