Derbyshire U13 Girls at Queens Park Chesterfield

A fairly inexperienced Derbyshire U13 Girls hosted a strong Lancashire U13 Girls at the iconic Queens Park Ground on Wednesday 11th July.

In keeping with the ECB directive to use U13 games for development purposes the two counties had agreed to play two T20 fixtures with reduced size boundaries and utilise a reverse power play in the first game.

The first game started with Derbyshire having won the toss deciding to bat first on a hot sunny day in Chesterfield. Derbyshire lost wickets in the first 2 overs and eventually they were in real trouble at 23 for 4 but a fine knock from Lola Blake with good support from Jess Smithurst helped Derbyshire to recover to 50 for 4. Lola was eventually out for 35 with the score at 51, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals with only some resistance from Beth Sheridan (9) and Jess who finished on 15 not out in Derbyshire's final total of 73 for 9 at the end of 20 overs. Lancashire knocked the runs off in only 12 overs for the loss of 4 wickets, Maddie Hayles being the pick of the Derbyshire bowlers with 2 wickets.

Lancashire batted first in the second game and reached a challenging 184 for 3 off their 20 overs with Snape (36), Lamb (29), Boardman (25) and Parker 38 not out all contributing. The heat had intensified during the afternoon and Derbyshire seemed to suffer as a result during their innings as they finished on a disappointing 35 all out with only Harriet Parkin reaching double figures, resulting in their second defeat of the day.

All in all it had been a great experience for both teams to play at Queens Park on a glorious sunny day with fantastic hospitality from the Chesterfield Club.
