Women and Girls Pathway 2019 Review!

Women and Girls Pathway 2019 Review!

2019 started with a good winter programme for all the squads, the U11 – U17 Girls training at Chellaston Academy and the Senior Women at the Gateway Centre. The U15 and U17 Girls had a couple of sessions that were led by Chris Guest and the Senior Women had great support from Derbyshire’s bowling coach, Steve Kirby.

Once the season started we had mixed results across the squads but also had a frustrating time with the weather resulting in a number of cancellations and abandonments.

Below is a brief review of each of the squads 2019 season:

U11 Girls

We carried a larger squad into the season and before any county fixtures were played a number of Intra County days were held allowing all the squad to take part.

The highlight during the County fixtures was Maria Andrews scoring 51 not out against Worcestershire.

U13 Girls

As with our U11’s we used a larger squad and again introduced a number of Intra County days into the programme.

6 County games were then played with the highlights being Harriett Parkin scoring 71 not out and Jess Smithurst 64 against Nottinghamshire.

The U13’s finished their season with an enjoyable 3 days at the Scarborough Festival where they not only produced some encouraging performances but also took in a KIA Super League game.

U15 Girls

The season started with the U15 Girls continuing the tradition of attending the 3 day Denstone Festival.

The batting highlight of the whole Women and Girls Pathway in 2019 was a magnificent 110 by Lara Shaw against Leicestershire.

Eden Collier produced a great spell of bowling when taking 6 wickets for 5 runs against Leicestershire.

U17 Girls

The U17 Girls finished third in their Division in the 40 over ECB competition.

An entertaining 4 days were had by a young squad, containing a number of U15’s, when they attended the Malvern Festival.

Keeley Brodrick, now bowling off-spin, had a great game when producing figures of 6 wickets for 16 runs against Leicestershire at Wirksworth.

Senior Women

Our Senior Women finished second in their Division in the 50 over competition but unfortunately had a disappointing T20 campaign.

Tash Allen top scored in the 50 over format with 71 against Scotland at Marehay and Bess Heath’s 56 against Worcestershire was the top scorer in T20’s.

Georgie Harrison was the leading wicket taker, finishing the season with 13 wickets at an average of 16.92.
