DCB U17 Girls v Cumbria

Thanks to Cumbria for their hospitality for the first game of the season.

The weather tried its best to cause an abandoned game however luck was on our side and a good opening game was concluded with reduced overs in the second innings.

Skipper Holly Beresford lost the toss and Derbyshire batted first scoring 256 for 7 off the 45 overs with a small break for rain after 41 overs. There were contributions from the entire batting lineup which was pleasing and more so with good rotation of the strike and putting away the bad ball. Innings highlights, Lauren Tuffrey (37) Sarah Glenn 50 (not out), Elysia Slack 24 and Alice Dyson 23 (not out). Others players contributed well but more runs were there for the taking with a little more application.

Note to players: There were 47 extras which would have made the game a lot closer, something to consider for future games.

DCB U17 Girls v Nottinghamshire on Friday 19th July 2013 at Newark Ransome and Marles CC

A scorching hot summer’s day welcomed the team upon arrival at Newark Ransome and Marles Cricket Club. Winning the toss and batting first was the preference for either of the Captains and fortunately Holly Beresford won the toss for Derbyshire. Unfortunately Derbyshire were soon 20 for 3 off 9 overs. Aimee Jepson was adjudged LBW 3rd ball of the innings, Rebekah Grimley was bowled for 6 in the fourth over and Elysia Slack bowled for 2 in the 9th over.

Sarah Glenn joined Emma White and put on a solid partnership of 60 which was well needed before Emma White was out bowled for 34. Alice Dyson and Sarah Glenn were batting well when Derbyshire were ready to increase the run rate by pushing the field back but Sarah Glenn was caught  for 27 with the score 93 for 5 in the 30th over.

DCB U17 Girls v Shropshire Monday 8th July at Quatt CC

The weather was prefect for cricket, matched by the very picturesque ground of Quatt near Bridgnorth in Shropshire. Shropshire won the toss and decided to bat in the heat on a track renowned for many runs for every home game in the local league. With a fast outfield on a slight slope with one side having a small boundary, keeping the run rate down would be difficult. The conditions for bowling were aided by swing early in the innings which Derbyshire found difficult to control.

Shropshire had a comfortable start 37 for 0 of 10 overs and it took until the 18th over for the first wicket to fall with a caught and bowled to the leg spinner Sarah Glenn with the score at 59.

DCB U17 Girls v Scotland on Tuesday 2nd July at Whaley Bridge CC

Many thanks to Whaley Bridge Cricket Club for hosting the match, unfortunately the weather could not be as welcoming and the match was abandoned after the completion of the Derbyshire innings.

u17 girls v scotland

The girls warmed up well prior to the start of the match which was essential as it felt like a December winters day with the cold and wind on the top of the hill at Whaley Bridge.

Captain Holly Beresford retuned the news that the toss was lost and Scotland elected to bowl first which was understandable as there was rain predicted.
