DCB U13 Boys v Yorkshire on Wednesday 21st May at Clifton CC

Result: Derbyshire 120/10 in 36.5 overs (Hamidullah Qadri 34) lost to Yorkshire 121/5 in 39.3 overs by 5 wickets.

DCB U13 Boys v Yorkshire

Arriving in glorious sunshine at the picturesque village of Clifton with fingers and toes crossed for a good performance against Yorkshire.

Whilst we unfortunately lost the match by 5 wkts, some positives can be taken with Yorkshire being taken to the last 3 balls remaining before they hit the winning run.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, Derbyshire posted a score of only 120 in 40 overs after being at one time 88-2 and 16 overs remaining, unfortunately Qadri (34) and Lacey (19) fell in quick succession and from then on we couldn't build any more partnerships as wkts fell at regular intervals. The only other major contributor being extras with 27. Disappointing end to the innings when we had at one time being talking of targeting a minimum score of 160+.

Wickets in the first two overs of the Yorkshire innings with Shannon using the Clifton slope to aide his swing and Kilgour showing good aggression and seam movement gave Derbyshire a great start. Unfortunately Yorkshire did what Derbyshire needed to do when we batted and build a match winning partnership plus have someone take ownership of looking to bat all the way through the innings. Tidy bowling mid innings when only 17 runs were scored in 10 overs gave Derbyshire an outside chance. Under pressure both sides struggled to get over the winning line and it took a disastrous 39th over for Derbyshire where 3 chances went begging and a missed run out resulted in overthrows leaving Yorkshire 5 to win off the last over. A square drive for 4 off the 3rd ball sealed the victory.

So near....we do though go onto our next match against Lincolnshire in better heart but as expected with still areas to improve on with both bat, ball and in the field.

Thanks to Clifton CC for staging this match with an excellent track and super teas.

DCB U13 Boys v Repton on Tuesday 13th May at Repton School

Result: Repton 40/10 in 19.4 overs (Azaan Afzal 4-6) lost to Derbyshire 69/10 in 18.5 overs by 29 runs

DCB U13 Boys v Repton

Well a win is a win in all forms of sport but as a warm up match for the squad this was a disappointing performance especially with the bat.

Indiscipline and poor shot selection made for an all out of 69 on what was a good albeit slow flat track. No one player spent enough time to both assess the pitch, match situation or just gain time at the crease with the longest stay being 20 balls.

When in the field fortunately we bowled enough straight deliveries to get 10 wickets and get an unusually average Repton side out for 40 of this too many extras, 16 including 12 wides and too many easy singles were given. Azaan Afzal with 4 wkts with 3 of those victims to Darren Rider being the main destroyer.

So we move on the following week to a match against Yorkshire who will certainly challenge the side, hopefully the lads have taken a good look at their performances today and make sure we see improvements in performance.

Thanks to Repton for staging this match which was up to their usual splendid standards.

DCB U13 Boys v Lancashire Thursday 11th July 2013 at Clowne Town CC

Result: Derbyshire 72 all out in 43.3 overs lost to Lancashire 151 all out in 44.3 overs (George Lyth 3-18) by 79 runs.

DCB U13 Boys v Northamptonshire Sunday 30th June 2013 at Chesterfield Barbarians CC

Result: Derbyshire 104/6 in 39.4 overs (Matthew Kimmit 32) beat Northamptonshire 103 all out in 36.1 overs (Joseph Wilson 3-9) by 4 Wickets.

DCB U13 Boys v Nottinghamshire Sunday 16th June 2013 at Southwell CC

Result: Nottinghamshire 80 all out in 37.3 overs (Ben Chapman-Lilley 35) lost to Derbyshire 138/7 in 40 overs (Joseph Wilson 5-13) by 58 runs

Derbyshire U13 Boys v Nottinghamshire

Notts won the toss and asked Derbyshire to bat first on a slightly damp wicket that should favour the bowlers. This proved the case with the Derbys batsmen struggling to make an impression. Facing two left arm seamers, Gleadall (0) and Wright (7) were early LBW victims. Snookes (21), Chapam-Lilley and Ahmed all made useful contributions, but with the spinners keeping the brakes on at 103-6 with just 4 overs left, a competitive score was looking highly unlikely.
