Result: U11 Boys 142/5 in 30 overs beat Development 86/4 in 30 overs by 56 runs

Derbyshire U11 boys opened their season with a game against the DCB U11 development squad at Hayfield C.C.

The days leading up to the game had seen some nice early season weather and we all looked forward to more of the same, unfortunately the weather gods decided differently! The clouds came and the winds blew a very chilled breeze throughout the day across the ground, although it did stay dry!

The ground with houses on two sides, which peep over the white washed walls, form something of a cricket amphitheatre and a lovely place for the aspiring cricketers to start the new season.

Fran Higton the U 11’s captain for the day tossed the coin with Will Valentine Development skipper and Higton on winning the toss decided to bat first on what looked a nice early season wicket.

The County U11’s had three players making their debuts: Haleem, Bond and Ridgeway.

DCB U11 Boys v Leicestershire Monday 8th July 2013 at Chesterfield Barbarians CC

Result: Derbyshire 124/3 in 26.4 overs (Adam Green 72) beat Leicestershire 121/7 in 35 overs by 7 Wickets.

DCB U11’s entertained Leicestershire at Walton Dam on an absolutely scorching day in North East Derbyshire.

Once again Skipper George Holden managed to lose the toss and Leicestershire decided to bat first, sending the DCB boys out into the mid-day sun.

Ben Kingham and Harry Whitworth opened up for DCB and Kingham was straight on his line and length moving the ball away from the batsmen up the hill, and producing a Jimmy Anderson special to remove opener Patel for 0. Whitworth on the other hand was struggling with the big slope and after 3 overs was replaced by the aggressive Jamie Kelly, however he too struggled to find any form of line and length and whilst Kingham was keeping it tight at the other end the runs began to flow for Leicestershire from the other. Kelly and Kingham were replaced by Will Thompson and Oscar Gaunt who both immediately found their length

DCB U11 Boys v Cheshire Wednesday 19th June 2013 at Hayfield CC

Result: Derbyshire 173/5 in 35 overs (Harry Whitworth 3-12) beat Cheshire 168 all out in 33.2 overs (George Holden 50, William Hobson 46) by 5 runs

On the warmest day of the year (so far) DCB U11’s entertained Cheshire at the very picturesque ground at Hayfield. Skipper George Holden continued his fine run of form with the coin toss as he lost it for the 3rd consecutive game, and DCB were invited to bat by the Cheshire Skipper George Foreman. DCB openers Holden and Will Hobson listened to the words of the coach and pushed the ball around the field taking singles at every opportunity and hitting any wayward deliveries to the boundary.

At the first much needed drinks break DCB were 58-0 with both batsmen looking set for big scores. The score progressed past the 100 mark with still no wickets down and Skipper Holden reached his first 50 for Derbyshire with a back cut for 2 (hopefully his Dad managed to get this on film otherwise there could be big trouble!!). Obviously thinking of his team mates sweltering in their pads on the pavilion balcony, George was bowled soon after for an excellent 50. DCB 104-1 after 20 overs.

On an absolutely glorious day DCB U11's entertained local neighbours Nottinghamshire at the picturesque home ground of Risley C.C..Once again DCB Skipper George Holden lost the toss and Notts decided to bat first on what looked like a beautiful batting wicket.

Opening the bowling for DCB were Ben Kingham & Harry Whitworth. Both bowlers found their line and length straight away and the Notts opening pair found it difficult to pierce the field; however Kingham began to struggle with his length in the 7th over and was rightly punished by the Notts openers who progressed the score to 33-0 when Oscar Gaunt & Joe Collier were brought into the attack.

DCB U11 Boys v Yorkshire Tuesday 23rd May 2013 at Cutthorpe CC

Derbyshire 75/9 in 35 Overs lost to Yorkshire 136/4 in 35 Overs by 16 Runs

On a very Cold, Wet & Windy day in North East Derbyshire, the U11's made their seasonal debut against Yorkshire. Derbyshire lost the toss and were sent out into the Cold by Yorkshire Skipper Elliot Goldthorp to field whilst the Yorkshire players huddled in the pavilion hoping their opening pair could bat all 35 overs. Derbyshire opened up with local hero Ben Kingham and the lively Jamie Kelly who both bowled good opening spells to the Yorkshire openers Bean & Revis who looked very accomplished batsmen for such a young age.

After 10 overs Yorkshire were 46-0, Will Hobson and Joe Collier making his DCB debut replaced the opening bowlers and Hobson found it difficult bowling with the slope conceding 14 from his first 2 overs. Collier on the other hand found his line and length straight away and picked up his and Derbyshire's first wicket when he bowled Revis for 23.
