Derbyshire U11s show some steel |

The Derbyshire U11s started off their 2012 campaign with an exciting
win against a plucky Northants team. Having set a good total of
148 in conditions that were difficult for fluent run scoring,
confidence was even higher halfway through the Northants innings
with the visitors struggling at 47-4. However an outstanding innings
of 68 by Thompson brought the Steelbacks very close, but not close
enough. The day had started positively with Reece Holmes (11) and
Joshua Vaughan (27) confidently putting on 38 for the first wicket.
However three quick wickets stalled this progress. Enter Nils
Priestley and Bilal Ali....

Senior Women Back With a Bang |
The
Derbyshire Senior Women commenced their league season with a home
fixture at the county ground against Northamptonshire on Sunday 6th
May. This season sees a young Derbyshire side strengthened by the
return of Bec Vernon from injury.
Charlotte Horton (pictured)
also returns to her home county after 3 years away playing with
Nottinghamshire. Sribala Sunderam retains the captaincy, and along
with the currently injured Sally Green makes up the only 4 players
over the age of 21, showing the commitment to a balance of
experience and youth...

Academy come up short in T20 against Repton |
|
A mixed
Academy and Mini Academy team played Repton School 1st XI
last Friday (4th May) on a cold and wet evening at Repton,
in what proved to be a low scoring game all round.
Repton batted
first and made 112 in their 20 overs with boundaries hard to come by
on a slow pitch and against some tight bowling by the academy
bowlers; in particular Greg Massingham was impressive taking 3 for
13 of his 4 overs of leg spin.

Academy v Ticknall CC Match
Report - Sunday 1st April 2012 |
|
The Academy began their 2012
season with a game against Ticknall CC in the Premier Challenge on
Sunday 14th April. The Academy batted first and made
a steady start with both Tom Hamilton and Matt Hughes looking
comfortable. After Hughes was out for 20,
Captain Matt Fletcher joined Tom Hamilton and they continued to put
away the bad ball and bat sensibly to put on over a 100 together,
Hamilton out for 90 and Fletcher 66. Then a late cameo from Pete
Burgoyne of 32 not out saw the academy to 255-5 on their 50 overs.
In response Ticknall started well,
Luke Harvey and Jonny Thompstone putting on 109 for the first wicket
before Thompstone was bowled by Burgoyne, who ended up with 3
wickets. Harvey continued to bat well and looked in really good form
for such an early season game before he was 6th out for a well made
92 and after that Ticknall’s innings fell away slightly with them
finishing 204 all out. Greg Cork and Tom Knight also
took 2 wickets each.
This is a good start for the
academy who played some solid cricket without ever really playing at
their best and we look forward to some more games as the season
progresses.

Mick is out and about for NatWest
Cricketforce |
NatWest
Cricketforce 2012 was the 11th year of the programme and
saw a record number of clubs taking part throughout the Country. In
Derbyshire it was the same story with a huge 79 clubs registered,
our highest ever number and a measure of the commitment of clubs to
improve their facilities.

Injuries aren’t something anybody wants to think
about but they do happen!
The treatment you receive during this phase is a
vital part of speed and quality of recovery.
Cricket injuries aren’t always easily diagnosed and
treated by physiotherapists from other sports. The opening of James
Pipe’s Physiotherapy Clinic, previously Derbyshire’s 1st
team keeper and current 1st team physio has created an
opportunity for all players to access somebody with a specialist
knowledge in cricket.
