ECB
agrees four year funding plan with Sport England

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have agreed a new
four year whole sport funding plan with Sport England for the development of
grassroots cricket.
The grant award of £37.8million is for the period 2009 to
2013 and covers both capital and revenue expenditure plans. It will be
invested in projects that grow participation; sustain involvement; increase
the satisfaction levels of participants; and creates pathways for excellence
from the playground to Test Arena.
The plan will also see the ECB continue its focus on
improving opportunities for women, girls and disabled players to participate
in cricket.
David Collier, Chief Executive of the ECB said:
“This agreement is fantastic news for cricket and will
enable us to continue our work to increase opportunities for people to take
part in our sport. The ECB has been awarded the largest grant of any
National Governing Body which demonstrates
the confidence that Sport England has in our ability to deliver grassroots
programmes.
“I would like to thank everyone in cricket, from the
thousands who volunteer at local clubs through to our development team, who
have helped to helped us to build partnerships in community cricket.”
“I
can also announce that the ECB has determined that a significant portion of
the Whole Sport Plan funding will be directed toward the Cricket
Foundation’s Chance to Shine initiative. This award, alongside agreement we
have reached with Minister for Sport Gerry Sutcliffe about future funding
arrangements, mean that Chance to Shine’s £20m four-year investment
programme funded jointly by the private and public sector can move ahead.”
Howard Dytham, Executive Manager of the DCB said:
“It’s great news that ECB and Sport England have signed an agreement for the
next four years that will ensure funding continues to be put into grassroots
cricket. This funding will allow the DCB to continue with much of the
activity and growth we have developed over the last few years. However, it’s
also vital that we continue to work with our other cricket and business
partners to bring additional and much-needed resource and funding into
cricket to ensure we can offer similar levels of support over the next four
years as we have been able to give in the last four.”

Cash4Clubs

Cash 4 Clubs is a sports funding scheme which gives
clubs a unique chance to apply for grants to improve facilities,
purchase new equipment, gain coaching qualifications, and generally
invest in the sustainability of their club. In 2008 over £30,000 was
given out in grants to 30 community sports clubs across the
UK. It's a flexible, no-fuss way to get
some help for your club or team. The Cash 4
Clubs scheme is funded by Betfair and is supported by SportsAid,
the charity for sports people. Betfair and SportsAid have worked
in partnership for a number of years and both organisations
understand the importance of community sport in promoting an active
lifestyle and stimulating local pride. It's a great time to be
involved with sport and Cash 4 Clubs can hopefully play an important
role in helping clubs to sustain and develop themselves.

Funding and Grant Aid - am I
eligible?
Grants & Funding support is
available from a wide variety of sources. Detailed below are some of the
places you can visit in search of those elusive funds. The information
which has been collected will by no means be an exhaustive list & one
request we would make is that if you know of anything which is not
recorded then please do pass that information on so other clubs can
benefit.
When searching for funding it is
worth spending some time ensuring the fund is something which you are
able to access & that you can meet the criteria which is required by the
Funding Organisation. Funders will also be looking for something in
return for the investment they have made please do ensure you are able
to deliver what they are asking for.

Putting your application
together
Careful planning to ensure your
ambitions are realistic and right for your club is essential. The
ECB's Club Development Plan provides a format and procedure, approved by
the main Grant Aid providers. For more information please visit;
https://www.ecb.co.uk/clubdevelopmentplanning.
‘Your plan forms a statement of your future intentions and will
demonstrate to funding organisations how your plan will satisfy their
requirements adding to cricket provision in your area.'
Tips to Achieving a
Successful Application
• You should demonstrate how your project represents value for money
• Emphasise your level of need for financial support
• Make sure your application is honest and request only funds you
require
• Be prepared to undergo a process of monitoring by funding agencies
• Demonstrate a degree of ‘self help' - whether in cash or in kind
• Have contingency plans in the event of a rejected application or a
reduced award
Approaching the Relevant
Funding Organisations
It is important that you chose the correct funding agency(s) for your
respective plan/ elements within your plan. Each organisation has its
own particular criteria and requirements. It is therefore vital that you
make contact with the individual organisation and match your plans to
its respective criteria before you compile an application.
