Emerging Girls 2011-2012
As
part of the continuing development of women and girls cricket in Derbyshire
the DCB are once again running an emerging girls programme this season.
The selection was based around
nominations for players from Managers and Coaches in the 2011 summer
season. The girls then attended a trials day based around technical,
tactical and physical sessions finishing with the girls giving a
presentation on their previous performances and future goals.
The eight girls selected have started
their winter training and are pictured left to right:
Katie Davies, Jess Bakewell, Georgia
Ball, Eleanor Cheatle, Holly Beresford, Alice Dyson (Sarah Glenn and Miranda
Marshall missing from photo)
Selection for the programme is a
deserved reward for the girls’ hard work and performances during 2011 which
saw all of the Women and Girls squads return some tremendous performance
which will surely continue to develop in 2012.

‘It’s Raining again’ but this year it’s
‘RUNS’
Women and Girls Cricket has seen a bright start in 2011, 4 games has seen 2
Centuries.
Due to the cancellation of the fixture by Cumbria to play the U17 girls a
practice match was arranged for the Derbyshire Senior women against the
Derbyshire U17s at Quarndon CC.
The Derbyshire Seniors were set 165 to win and Rachel Hopkins who only
finished playing U17 cricket a couple of years ago herself batted through
the innings to finish 105 not out.
This
though was surpassed two weeks later by 11 year old Sarah Glenn.
On
the 8th May Derbyshire U13 girls were playing their first match
of the season versus Northants U13s at Elvaston CC.

Derbyshire lost the toss and were put into bat. Sarah Glenn and Eleanor
Cheatle opened the innings and Derbyshire lost Eleanor Cheatle with the
score on 15 which brought Elinor Canham to the crease. The pair then
proceeded to put on 111 for the second wicket with some excellent running
between the wickets.
Derbyshire finished on 164 for 4 off their 30 overs with Sarah Glenn (pictured
left) 109 not out off 76 balls with 12 fours.
A
feature of Sarah’s innings was the power with which she struck the ball
straight and through the covers and her ability to put away the bad ball
particularly through square leg.
Derbyshire then bowled Northants out for 70. This was an excellent innings
by someone who is still only 11 and has another year at this age group.
Special mention has to go to Elinor Canham who on her debut also made her
top score of 27 and batted extremely intelligently with Sarah.
Greig Wright, Head Coach of the Women and Girls section said, “Over the
winter the girls have worked really hard on improving all aspects of their
game and this is deserved reward for them. I am sure this will inspire the
rest of the girls to match or better these achievements”
