Sky Sports Coaching Awards
2011

Sky Sports are the principal sponsor
towards Coach Education in the U.K.
Some of the support given comes in the
shape of coach bursaries which has seen a number of clubs/individuals
receive part or all of the funding back for the courses they have attended.
Another element is the annual reward and
recognition awards.
The selection for this years
representatives from Derbyshire have been made based on nominations received
form clubs for the 3 main categories.
“Outstanding
Contribution and Services to Cricket Coaching”
Alan Hough – Ockbrook and Borrowash Cricket
Club
“Alan
has spent a tremendous amount of time coaching at all levels from Kwik to
Under 15 boys and is also the head coach of the Erewash Girls side (Clubs
linked from Erewash including Ockbrook, Sawley and Long Eaton Park, Long
Eaton C.C. to form an under 15 girls side). Erewash now have the largest
number of girls from any district representing Derbyshire.
Not
only does Alan work hard to improve others he also works hard to ensure his
own development is kept up to date to ensure he offers a good standard of
delivery. Continually attending any relevant Coach CPD courses available.
His
dedication towards the development of Children at Ockbrook and Borrowash and
Erewash merits recognition towards this award”.
“Outstanding
Coaching Achievement”
Kevin Wilson – Denby Cricket Club
“Denby Cricket Club would like to
nominate Kevin Wilson into the “Outstanding Coaching Achievement Award” for
the work he has done within the Denby CC Juniors under 11 section. Kevin has
been working in the junior section for a number of years & has worked hard
to develop himself as a coach (now level 3) & individual. For the past 2
years Kevin has been working with cricketers coming out of kwik up to the
under 13 age group. This work coincided with the club choosing to offer
under 11 hard ball cricket which was an age group traditionally not covered
in our area. After a season that saw us win one game & look out of our depth
the club looked to carry out a re organization which saw Kevin given the
responsibility in this area. The results & benefits of this decision have
been significant both to the club & the individuals in the club & I can
summarize some of the key achievements as follows:
Kevin has designed & implemented a
coaching programme that covers the winter & summer.
Kevin has built a team of coaches/
managers that supports the coaching programme & the match play programme as
well.
Results have improved massively from 1
win in 2008 to being unbeaten with 2 teams in 2010.
The work done has contributed to more
players than ever before being selected to take part in District & County
training programmes.
Kevin has worked with boys & girls & the
programme has supported players of all abilities & helped many players as
they look to maximize their potential.
In conclusion the decision to give Kevin
responsibility at this age group has made a significant difference to the
club & players. We do not believe this would have happened had it not been
for the outstanding commitment &dedication that Kevin has shown.”
“Young Coach of
the Year”
Sam Moseley – Breadsall Cricket Club
“Sam qualified as a UKCC1 in November
2009 and prior to this had been assisting the clubs coaches.
Upon passing the level 1 course, Sam
was immediately involved in coaching the clubs juniors during the winter,
covering the ages 6 to 15 leading and assisting others.
This involved up to 3 hours of
coaching time per week spread over 2 sessions/days.
During the summer Sam coached the
clubs young cricketers aged 6 – 10 every week between April and August and
also took on the role of managing a team at this age group”.
We would like to thank all the people
who took the time to nominate and would also like to take this opportunity
to give a huge thanks to everybody who gives up their time coaching in all
environments.
Good luck to Alan, Kevin and Sam who now
move forward to the national stages of the Awards.
