Introduction to Cricket –
Be Involved

The ‘Introduction to Cricket – Be
Involved’ course ran on Friday 5th September at Barton Cricket
Club with 14 participants from the Club attending as well as members from
the Derbyshire Cricket Board and ECB. This was the first time this new
course had been run in the country.
The course is very much designed to
recruit new parents, other family members and players into volunteering
their time and skills into cricket club life. John Sookias, Barton’s Junior
Coordinator, delivered the course and outlined all the possible roles that
need to be filled within a successful cricket club to support the young
players that are the ‘life-blood’ of every club.
Attendees got a glimpse of how simple it
can be to help with scoring, umpiring or organising Kwik Cricket matches,
helping run Club websites, providing refreshments for players as well as
understanding what young players really need in terms of family support and
encouragement if they are to reach their potential in the game.
