Match Reports Boys U17

DCB U17 Boys v Cheshire on Thursday 2nd July at Cheadle Hulme CC

Derbyshire enjoyed a conclusive 8 wicket win in their ECB County Cup match against Cheshire at Cheadle Hulme CC.

Elliot Savidge, having won the toss, asked Cheshire to bat first on a well-grassed pitch.

The decision was soon vindicated as Jack Bull produced an excellent delivery to hit the top of Rimmer's off-stump, but it was the introduction of James Thomson into the attack after thirteen overs which proved decisive. He took four for 14 in his seven overs, including an excellent catch of his own bowling to leave the home side struggling on 46 for five.

Derbyshire U17 Boys v Trent College Thursday 23rd April 2015 at Trent College

Result: Derbyshire 226/4 in 40 overs (Edward Barlow 65) beat Trent 186/8 by 40 runs

The U17s won the second of their 40 over warm-up matches with a 40 run win over Trent College, a comfortable margin, but one which could and should have been greater.

Electing to bat first on an easy-paced pitch, skipper Elliott Savidge showed a positive intent, scoring 35 off 32 deliveries before being caught driving.  Partner Richard Brown (43) was rather more circumspect but with new batsman Edward Barlow, took the score to 100 before being dismissed.

The arrival of Joss Morgan (44 off 42 deliveries) led to a more urgent approach to running between the wickets, and with both batsman also putting away the bad ball effectively, they put on 110 for the next wicket before Barlow perished for 65 made off 84 balls.

Aided by a generous helping of wides from the school side, the innings closed on 226 for five.

Derbyshire U17 Boys v Repton Monday 13th April 2015 at Repton School

Result: Repton 177/7 in 40 overs lost to Derbyshire 179/3 in 36 overs by 7 wickets

The DCB Under 17s had a comfortable 7-wicket win in their traditional early season 40 over warm-up match against Repton School.

The home side won the toss to take first use of a pitch which was remarkably dry and firm for the second week of April.

The opening attack of Sam Conners and newcomer Ahmad Zazai found a good line and had an early success when Conners bowled Elliot Lawley with the score on 5.

Jack Bull replaced Conners, and soon took the valuable wickets of Joss Morgan, caught at long-leg and Callum Brodrick,  carelessly stumped.  35 for three soon became 48 for five after 17 overs as Bull removed the next two batsmen bowled and LBW.
