Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Statement

Cricket is a game for everyone

At Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF) we believe that everyone should be able to say “cricket is a game for me”, and we are committed to ensuring that cricket is accessible, safe, and welcoming to all those participating, whether they be players, spectators, volunteers, officials, coaches or those working on behalf of the DCF.

Increasing the diversity of participants is a key priority for the DCF, as we seek to grow the game, and promote health, well-being, and opportunity to wider audiences through cricket. We are committed to creating environments where everyone feels included, and individual differences and the contributions of all is recognised, respected, and valued.  We will work with all stakeholders to promote this across cricket in Derbyshire, and will strive to maintain the highest possible standards.

We are fully committed to the principles of equality of opportunity in cricket and aim to ensure that no individual is discriminated against on the grounds of any of the protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act, 2010; age, gender, disability, race, parental or marital status, pregnancy, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

We are committed to create an environment where everybody is treated with dignity and respect, and which is free of bullying, harassment, and victimisation, as outlined in our Harassment and Bullying Policy. We take seriously complaints of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination by our employees, or by those we work with, or by members of the public in the course of our business activities. Any issues of this nature should be raised with us, so that they can be addressed through our complaints procedure, and, where appropriate, the DCF grievance and/or disciplinary procedures. We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action if there is a breach of policy, or the standards of conduct outlined in the DCF Staff Handbook.

The DCF supports initiatives by other organisations within cricket and sport more generally which seek to promote equality, diversity and inclusion, and will work with national organisations and other stakeholders in Derbyshire Cricket to further these aims. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is a signatory to the Government’s Charter for Action tackling Homophobia and Transphobia in Sport.

We will continue to monitor our policies, practices and procedures, and take action to ensure that we are promoting diversity and inclusion across the sport of cricket, and operating in line with good practice and with relevant legislation.
